Paperback, 98pages

Through the use of many colourful and interesting stories and examples, Pam Hanna makes a very persuasive case for looking carefully and listening sensitively to children as a basis for adults learning with them. Relevant to both centre-based and family day care settings in Australia and New Zealand, it gives new meaning to the idea of 'starting with the child.'
Written for educators who are focused on, and proactive about, extending young children's thinking and learning.
I found this text very reassuring because I believe it gives recognition to what educators are already doing. With some narratives within the book I was able to think "We have done that" or "What a great idea". What is also reassuring is the importance given to the role of parents and family.
Freya Kerr - Early Childhood Educator and Lecturer
This book reminds us that there are significant additional responsibilties for teachers in the new millennium in relation to respectful relationships and thoughtful, meaningful interactions within stimulating environments. Pam Hanna asks important questions about adult readiness for journeys of shared learning with children.
