Jan Millikan is the director of the Reggio Emilia Information Exchange in Australia and Associate of the Education Faculty at Monash University. Her involvement in both Reggio Emilia and Australian Early Childhood settings makes for an insightful and informative book.
This is the first Australian book on Reggio Emilia principles, and the impact they will have on Early Childhood Services.
The book is an excellent introduction to the teaching principles of Reggio Emilia and the implications for the care and education of young children, and the author engages you with well researched, current thinking on an education philosophy recognised worldwide.
Principles considered are;
The Image of the Child's Potentials and Rights
Pedagogical Documentation
Communication and Collaboration
The Physical Environment as "An Educator" in it's own right
The Curriculum as a vehicle to construct knowledge
and others
'Reflections' gives an overview of some of the principles that underpin the schools for young children in the city of Reggio Emilia, but more importantly, Jan asks us to question the relevance of these experiences to the cultural context of where we live and teach. New Zealanders will be able to connect with the content of this book and it will give them another pocket of knoiwledge on which to draw upon." Chris Bayes. N Z Reggio Society
